Biographical Statement

Paul Anthony was born in 1963 in Jamaica WI; he has been a resident of Queens County since 1978. He holds degrees in Psychology, Studio Arts, Education, and is completing an MFA degree in Photography. Paul also studied painting and printmaking at the Art Student’s League from 1993-1995.

Paul Anthony is largely self-taught as a photographer, mastering large format photography and fine print making through extensive reading and years of practice. His tools include a 4X5, an 8X10 and a 12X20” mammoth camera. His works are produced exclusively in black and white, and are all printed by the artist to insure highest reproduction quality. Images range in size from 8X10’ contact prints to 16X20’ enlargements, most of his images are printed to 11X14”, and mounted on 16X20” museum boards.

Paul Anthony’s work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., from New York to Nebraska. His work has been published in several Fine Arts publication, most notably The Best of Photography Annual 1996 and 2000. He is a member of The Soho Photo Gallery, and the Alliance of Queens’ artist and the Flushing Council on the Arts.

For more than a decade his work has focused on the three major areas of visualization, portraits, still life and landscapes. His current project A New Beginning, is a portfolio of one hundred photographs from 32 parks throughout Queens County (press release attached). He has been producing a monthly newsletter featuring this series since August of 1999. Other portfolios include “Manifestations of the Spirit” (visual details in the urban landscape) and “Northern Light” (winter still life, portraits and domestic scenes).

His works are produced in limited editions of 15 to 25 prints per negative, all processed to the highest archival standards.

Teaching

Paul Anthony has been a teaching faculty with The City University of New York since January 1996. He has instructed courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences on both graduate and undergraduate level. CV attached.
